China Virus Lockdown and Big Tech Censorship: Stop Treating Us Like Children
Indeed It Is
We’re FINALLY beginning to emerge out from under the government-imposed, titanically stupid China Virus FREAK OUT!!!
During which we have murdered a $22 trillion economy - and thus far 36.5 million gigs, or 1/4th of our entire job pool.
Meanwhile, Big Tech monstrosity Facebook last week announced its Conservative Censorship Board.
Oops, I mean….
“To help the company make judgment calls on what constitutes free speech or harmful speech on the network.”
Except Facebook - and Big Tech companies all - have a LOOOONG history of censoring conservative and Christian speech.
Oh - and of course Google owns YouTube, so….
What do Big Government boots-on-the-neck and Big Tech censorship have in common?
Our overlords - insist on treating us like children.
Which is insulting to the two-hundred-or-so-million of us - who actually think and behave as adults.
Hey Big Government:
How about leaving society and the economy open - and letting We the People decide for ourselves what we need to do to keep ourselves and our loved ones alive.
Given the fact we have an innate, genetic predisposition to not look for ways to die - I’m quite sure most of us will make fairly reasonable calls.
Hey Big Tech:
There’s only one fair way to handle the MASSIVE power you have over the national discourse:
Everyone speaks - and everyone decides for themselves to whom to listen.
No Supreme Courts of Speech necessary.
But our Big overlords - steadfastly refuse to give us the chance to govern ourselves.
Big Government doesn’t have the authority to engage in any of the nine trillion parts of the massive shutdowns they have imposed. There is no Virus Exemption Amendment to the Constitution.
They just….did it. And we far too passively…accepted it.
Big Tech companies - are abusing one of the biggest Big Government crony handouts in history.
What is Section 230, you ask?:
“Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act (CDA) immunizes online platforms for their users’ defamatory, fraudulent, or otherwise unlawful content. Congress granted this extraordinary benefit to facilitate ‘forum[s] for a true diversity of political discourse.’
Big Tech gets this titanic cronyism - predicated upon their assertion that there is simply too much outside content on their sites to possibly manage. Basic math asserts - that’s a fact.
“(Section 230) was also pushed by the tech industry…that language in the proposed CDA making providers responsible for indecent content posted by users that could extend to other types of questionable free speech.”
Even way back then, Big Tech was gearing up to censor “questionable free speech.”
Again - we Adults don’t want Big Tech (or anyone else) deciding what is or isn’t “questionable free speech.”
We’ll decide for ourselves, thank you.
“Here’s the portion of Section 230 – on which Big Tech seems to be hanging its anti-conservative hats:
“‘No provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be held liable on account of—
“‘(A) any action voluntarily taken in good faith to restrict access to or availability of material that the provider or user considers to be obscene, lewd, lascivious, filthy, excessively violent, harassing, or otherwise objectionable, whether or not such material is constitutionally protected;”
Except: Emphasis ours. Because Big Tech has NEVER engaged in even a smidgen of good faith.
And we have an ongoing, rolling Big Gov-Big Tech partnership problem….
What The U.S. Government Asks Google To Censor
That is yet again rearing its ugly head….
Which brings us to the looming 2020 election.
Where the Big Gov-Big Tech harmonic convergence - continues unabated.
“The agenda was to build up discussions and strategic collaboration ahead of the November 2020 state, federal and presidential elections, according to Facebook.
“Tech company representatives and government officials talked about potential threats, as well as how to better share information and detect threats, the social network said.”
Big Tech platforms helped push for three-plus years - during the 2016 election and years beyond - the storyline that now-President Donald Trump colluded with Russia.
Never did Big Tech challenge the narrative.
And now we know the narrative - was a lie.
So Big Tech being the “Arbiters of Truth” - is HIGHLY problematic.
